Compassion Shawl

The Compassion Shawl was finished the day the war broke out in Ukraine. Feeling upset about a war in Europe after decades of peace, I called this shawl The Compassion Shawl. Compassion can be described as kindness rooted in an appreciation of other human beings. If everyone could be compassionate towards each other and respect human life, war will only be a word in a dictionary.

Compassion Shawl is a surprisingly simple pattern with only one row repeat. The shawl is worked down and up, giving you the opportunity to make it as large as you want. It has a light wavy ruffle border.

Yarn: Wild & Soft (50g/240m/262yd) from Gepard Yarn, and Paia (25g/245m/268 in) from Filcolana.

  • Shawl: 3 x balls of Wild & Soft in colour 866 (dark green) – YARN A

  • Border: 1 x ball of Paia in colour 709 (pink) – YARN B, 1 x ball of Wild & Soft in colour 422 (pink) – YARN C

Hook: 5 mm or hook size to fit the gauge.

The pattern works well with super fine/ fine yarn weight (lace, light fingering, fingering) Hook size should be 1.5 – 2.0 mm larger than recommended to ensure a nice drape.

The pattern has been carefully tested. The feedback is that the repetition is calming and that the shawl is easy to make. If you would like to try out this pattern, you can find it in my Ravelry Store.

The pattern is written in US terms and in Norwegian.

Compassion is kindness rooted in an appreciation of other human beings.
